How to Care for Your Jewelry
Jewelry care guide
The fine jewellery you purchase is one-of-a-kind and has sentimental value. Regular wear and tear is to be expected due to frequent wear and tear, but with proper care and attention, you can store your jewellery with confidence and ensure it remains in pristine condition.
1. Maintenance of all types of jewelry
① Develop a good wearing habit of "wearing when going out and taking off when entering the house", which can help your jewelry avoid 80% of after-sales problems.
② Avoid contact with daily chemical products. Do not wear it when taking a bath to avoid chemical reactions with soap, shower gel, shampoo, cosmetics, etc.
③ Avoid collision or squeezing to avoid deformation or breakage. Take it off when sleeping, exercising, and cooking.
④ Avoid high temperature or exposure to the sun to avoid unnecessary fading and other problems.
⑤ Different types of jewelry have different hardness and should be placed separately to avoid mutual wear.
⑥ Regular inspection, such as whether the claw-set gems are loose, whether the diamonds have fallen off, and whether the necklace clasp is firm.
2. Maintenance of gold and silver jewelry
Mainly refers to pure gold, 18K gold, silver, platinum, etc.
① When gold jewelry loses its luster due to stains, just soak it in warm water + neutral detergent and clean it, then wipe it dry.
② After silver jewelry turns black, you can wipe it with a silver cloth or brush it with toothpaste that does not contain particles.
③ Metal jewelry that is not worn for a long time can be put in a sealed bag after cleaning to prevent oxidation and blackening.
3. Diamond jewelry maintenance
Mainly refers to white diamonds, yellow diamonds, pink diamonds, green diamonds, etc.
①Don't touch diamonds with your hands often. Diamonds are lipophilic, and the oil on the skin will affect the luster and brightness of diamonds.
②Don't wear and place diamonds with other gems, because diamonds are very hard and may wear other gems.
③Although diamonds are hard, they are also brittle, so don't bump them.
④When cleaning, use a small bowl to fill warm water, add an appropriate amount of neutral detergent, then immerse the diamond jewelry, gently scrub with a toothbrush, and finally rinse with clean water and wipe dry with a soft cloth.
Ps: First, try to scrub the back of the diamond at the same time, which can greatly brighten the luster of the diamond; second, don't scrub in front of the sink or sewer.
4. Maintenance of colored gemstone jewelry
Mainly refers to colored gemstones, such as ruby, sapphire, emerald, tourmaline, garnet, crystal, etc.
①They have different hardness, so it is best to wear or place them separately.
②Some gemstones are afraid of water loss, some gemstones are afraid of water, some gemstones are afraid of high temperature, and some are afraid of sunlight. The situation is more complicated and difficult to give examples.
If you are not sure, you can consult the merchant. The safest universal measure is still to avoid putting gemstones in abnormal environments-for example, avoid gemstones in the sun, bathrooms, etc.
③For emeralds, tourmalines, and other gemstones with more inclusions/cracks, or brittleness/low hardness, do not use ultrasonic machines to clean them to avoid damage or breakage of gemstones.
